Swimming is one of the most popular sports in the world. Unlike other sports, swimming is a life skill that is taught, first, to ensure safety and, secondly, for sports and competition purposes. Our focus is teaching skills and strategy that will allow the Special Olympics athlete to become a successful swimmer and competitor. The Burlington Barracudas, our longest running team, competes in at least 6 competitions throughout the Region 5 area. These meeets are held one Sunday a month from October through April. Our athletes are expected to compete in a minimum of 3 competitions during the season. We also host a swim competition each January. At our weekly Wednnesday night practices at Angela Coughlin Pool, swimmers participate in training sessions to improve stroke development, build endurance and learn racing skills. They also learn sportsmanship and how to be positve competitors. Several times each season we have a family fun night of swimming.
Special Notice:
All meets start at 8am and swimmers need to be there by that time for warm ups. Meets finish between 12:30 and 1pm. Parents are welcome to attend and there is seating in bleachers at all the venues.
